Philips DVDR3435V DVD/VCR Recorder with DivX and USB Support Review
I'm not sure why a previous reviewer had so much trouble, but I found that recording from DVD to VHS was not difficult at all. It does require a few steps to make sure you have the settings you want but you shouldn't have to change them after that unless you change you mind about how to record things. The one thing you probably do need to do every times besides hitting dub is to pick the recording quality which effects the amount of time you DVD can record for, but that can be done with one button on the remote very quickly.
Recording from the TV was trivially easy- like recording to a VCR.
Recording from a video camera (not using fireware- the old fashioned way) was not difficult, though it required a manual consult to figure out how to change the DVD input channel.
My main complaint is sometimes it's not intuitive which menus and button functions will only work in certain modes. For example, you can't change the DVD recording quality in VHS mode (I understand that makes some sense, but in an interface a one-use button shouldn't really change behavior, only multi-function buttons). Also, you can only pull up the menu to manually finalize the disc if you start playing the movie, it doesn't work if you have it in the title screen. This seems like sloppy user interface testing.
Still, if you want to dub VHS to DVD or record tv to DVD I would definitely say this will do the job. The DIVX capabalities are also a big plus in my book.
